Apple TV:Find My Siri Remote Features in TVOS 17 Update

During Apple’s WWDC keynote, amidst the announcements about new Macs, iOS 17, and Vision Pro, the Apple TV received some attention as well. Two notable updates are coming to TVOS 17 in the fall: the arrival of FaceTime and the integration of Find My for Siri Remotes.

The addition of FaceTime to Apple TV has been long-awaited. The functionality will be similar to the Continuity Camera feature found on Macs. Instead of connecting a camera directly to your Apple TV, you’ll be able to use the microphones and cameras on your iPhone or iPad to capture audio and video. The FaceTime call will be displayed on your television screen, providing a larger view for participants.

Apple is also introducing SharePlay to FaceTime on TVOS, allowing users to watch movies or TV shows with friends while on a FaceTime call. Additionally, Continuity Camera will be expanded to other apps on TVOS, such as Apple Music and Apple Music Sing (a karaoke-like feature). Apple is also making this capability accessible to third-party developers. Zoom and Webex have already committed to bringing their apps to Apple TV later this year.

Apple TV’s latest update, TVOS 17, brings exciting enhancements, including the long-awaited support for the new Siri Remote in the Find My app. While other devices like Roku have offered remote tracking capabilities, Apple has now integrated this feature directly into its Siri Remote, making it easier to locate misplaced remotes without the need for additional accessories. Using the Find My app on an iPhone, users can track their Siri Remote just like they would an AirTag, receiving guidance as they get closer to their lost remote.

In addition to the remote tracking feature, TVOS 17 introduces support for third-party VPNs, offering more flexibility for users to protect their privacy and security while streaming. Furthermore, improvements to profiles enhance the user experience, allowing for personalized settings and preferences across different accounts.

The new software update is set to be released later this year for both Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD boxes, providing Apple TV users with enhanced functionality and convenience.
